JBL's Live Pro 2 true wireless earbuds tick all of the right boxes. Here's what we love.

When the JBL Live Pro 2 wireless buds were revealed at CES 2022, they came with more than a few eye-catching features. JBL's latest true wireless earbuds tick all the boxes you want: premium battery life, outstanding sound, adaptive noise canceling tech, wireless charging—you catch the drift.

Now that the JBL Live Pro 2 buds have officially launched, it's time to round up the eight new features we love.

What use is a set of earbuds if they don't have any battery when you want to use them? Rest assured, the JBL Live Pro 2 buds won't let you down when you head out the door, with the earbuds holding enough juice for up to 10 hours of playback, depending on your active noise cancelation (ANC) and volume settings. Of course, crank the volume and use ANC continuously, and that playback figure will drop, as you might expect.

Ten hours of playback is an excellent figure for true wireless earbuds. It puts the JBL Live Pro 2 buds into the top-tier among other similarly excellent performing alternatives. For reference, Apple AirPods Pro only last for up to 4.5 hours of playback and will cost you about 100 bucks more for the privilege.

Adding to the 10 hours is the 30 hours of playback that comes on the carry case. Thirty hours translates to three full charges for the JBL Live Pro 2, keeping your earbuds powered up and playing music for nearly two whole days. You just better hope your phone battery can keep up!

The JBL Live Pro 2 buds have great battery life; there's no doubt about it. But what if there is that one occasion where you have drained the buds and rinsed through the carry case?

Well, you can grab up to four hours of playback on a rapid 15-minute charge, perfect for when you find a handy spare outlet in the airport departure lounge. The longer you can keep it on charge, the better, and the earbuds and carry case will receive a full charge within two hours. But, you have the fast charging option there when you need it.

If you've not used JBL earbuds before, the company's Signature Sound is definitely worth considering. Now, it's not a flat, neutral sound. These aren't reference earbuds or high-end IEMs; make no mistake. JBL's Signature Sound is roughly a "V" shape, delivering similar amounts of boosted bass and treble, with a balanced mid-range.

In the world of sound signatures, the V shape is considered fun and will bring almost all genres to life, but you're probably not experiencing an absolutely faithful representation of your favorite tracks.

Is it a bit of a trade-off? Yes. Will it make your music sound bouncy, fun, and entertaining? Absolutely.

JBL's Live Pro 2 buds use a new Oval Tubes design, which should translate to better ANC and better microphone quality, meaning clearer speech and easier to control voice commands.

In addition, the JBL Live Pro 2 earbuds come with oval-shaped silicone ear tips. There are three ear tip sizes in the box, and you should always switch between ear tips to find the best for your ears, as you need to make a good seal for the optimal experience.

The chance of finding a great fit is improved with JBL's new oval-shaped silicone ear tips that will fit your ear canal better than the traditional circular tips you find elsewhere. It doesn't sound like much of a difference, but the slight adjustment to the ear tip shape can help to create a better seal, helping to deliver a more accurate audio experience.

Along with battery life and sound quality, noise-canceling tech forms the vital trifecta you should demand from your earbuds. You can compromise a little in all areas, but any earbuds worth their salt will bring a strong performance in each area.

JBL's True Adaptive Noise Canceling tech fits the bill perfectly, blocking audio to a good level while auto-magically adjusting to your surroundings to boost the ANC level when required. You might think that automatically adjusting noise cancelation is a gimmick, but it's incredibly useful.

Automatically adjusting your ANC could actually save you battery life. For example, if you're sitting in a quiet library with very little background noise, there is no point in having the ANC cranked up to 11, as even in a quiet environment, it uses more battery than a "lighter" setting. JBL's True Adaptive Noise Canceling tech will adjust the level of noise blocking to your local environment.

Following on from the above, the JBL Live Pro 2 earbuds come with six integrated microphones, three for each earbud. When it comes to earbuds, microphones serve two purposes.

First up, they're important for ANC, which uses microphones to analyze incoming audio and cancel it out. More microphones don't always translate to better ANC (there is more at play than just the number of microphones), but it can help with overall analysis and adaptation.

Second, the six microphones certainly help to improve voice calling quality. Again, more isn't always better, but JBL's microphones are always of high quality, and the Live Pro 2 earbud call quality is top-notch.

Okay, so the JBL Headphones app technically isn't part of the JBL Live Pro 2 earbuds, but the features in a companion app can drastically boost your earbud experience.

When you pick up a pair of the JBL Live Pro 2 earbuds, make sure to download the JBL Headphones app. From the app, you can control the ANC level manually, adjust ambient sound controls, take an ear canal test to make sure your fit is nice and snug, change the touch controls, create a custom EQ, and much more.

The JBL Live Pro 2 earbuds use Bluetooth 5.2, which is the latest Bluetooth tech at the time of writing. What that means is that your devices will connect rapidly, and once connected, they'll stay connected with minimal dropouts.

Bluetooth 5.2 has a really nifty feature you can make use of: multipoint connections. This means that you can connect to two devices simultaneously, such as your laptop and a Bluetooth speaker. It's a small but useful feature that not nearly enough earbud manufacturers use!

Google Fast Pair is another (Android) Bluetooth tech that enables fast connections between enabled devices. It uses Bluetooth Low Energy to identify and connect to Android devices rapidly. The JBL Live Pro 2 buds will connect super fast if you're using an Android device. iOS users won't have a problem connecting, mind. It's just that the Android devices connect that little bit quicker.

The final thing we love about the JBL Live Pro 2 is the price. Retailing for a tidy $149.95, the Live Pro 2's combination of features makes it a very competitively priced option in a market swimming with serious competitors.

Looking through the list of features, there's a lot to love about the JBL Live Pro 2 true wireless earbuds.

Topping the list is the battery life. The 10 hours of playback on the earbuds and another 30 on the carry case is an excellent proposition. Throw in JBL's Signature Sound and the True Adaptive Noise Canceling, and for the money you'll pay, the JBL Live Pro 2 buds are definitely one of the best options on the market.
